For some, the word Marijuana has a negative stigma, and those wanting to consume it, do not want to be labelled as a “Pot Head”. With the legalization of the medicinal plant, connoisseurs alike have ventured into new ways of consuming cannabis, and we just can’t wait to share them with you! We mainly focused on healthier alternatives for those who do not want to smoke the herb, however, we also have healthier tips for smoking your weed! Let’s get right into it!
Cannabis Tea, Drinks, & Sodas
For cancer patients or even those just wanting to relax, we recommend taking “tea time” to a whole new level! Cannabis Tea, also known as Cannatea, is one of the most common and natural ways to consume cannabis. Cannabis leaves and stems can be brewed for about half an hour, and there is little to no psychoactive effect and is the easiest extraction method.
Now, extracting the herb itself can be a bit complicated so we looked to HERB for a simple recipe using Cannabutter. Using cannabutter in your tea is definitely faster than brewing, and you may also use it as a substitute for regular butter! We’ll get more into cannabutter when we start talking Edibles! If you don’t like regular tea, you can always try it in your chai or coffee! We recommend some of Thompson Caribou–Café Mochaboo syrup in your coffee, nothing better than Canadian syrup, eh?
Some dispensaries carry Canna Cola if you’re looking for a bubblier drink, however, be careful mixing it with cocktails. For cocktails, we recommend tinctures, and we will also go into that as well!
Now don’t you worry, we didn’t forget about those on the juicer diet! Juicing can be a great detox when combined with hemp seeds and leaves. No risk of getting a THC high but the benefits of the plant itself! You can also do the same for your smoothies!
All these drink options help to reduce chronic pain with multiple sclerosis and physical injuries. Not to mention they will keep you and your lungs very happy 🙂
Edibles
Edibles are one of our favourite ways of consuming marijuana and are way more fun than the traditional method of smoking. Again, your lungs will thank you, plus there’s no coughing and phlegm after a brownie. Cannabutter or Cannaoil is the key to creating yummy marijuana snacks. You can choose to make them yourself at home or check out what we have in stock!
Now, it does take longer for edibles to get into your bloodstream, so it may not hit you the way it does a joint, but this is really a case-by-case basis. Some people get sleepy, while others are giggly and energetic. You’ll never know how strong it is until you try it because every batch turns out differently based on how it’s baked. If you choose to make them yourself, we recommend starting with small doses: What happens when you eat weed?
For our chef community, who are cannabis enthusiasts or just want to learn to cook with it, we recommend checking out Jeff The 420 Chef‘s book, The 420 Gourmet: The Elevated Art Of Cannabis Cuisine.
Topicals, Tinctures, & Tonics
Topicals
Topicals are cannabis-infused balms, salves and creams used for skin and muscle pains. According to a molecular biologist and author, Dr. Meliha Karsak, who conducted a study in 2007 that was published in the journal Science, it can relieve physical pain and reduce inflammation. Dispensaries will often give you different options of sweet-smelling balms that reduce head highs and soreness. Current treatments and studies use topicals for burn victims, skin elasticity improvement and even skin cancer patients.
Tinctures & Tonics
This used to be one of the most popular ways to consume marijuana but it seems new to most cannabis connoisseurs. Tinctures are extracted cannabinoids mixed into alcohol, or coconut oil. The extraction usually involves the whole plant and the liquid form is known as tonic or tincture. You can find these little bottles of oil or spray here. It is normally taken orally, though you can add drops to your food or drink, however, because of how it is dispersed your psychoactive high is limited. This helps for controlling your dosage is also healthy for you!
Vaporizing
Vaping has taken the world by storm, it started way back with these huge vape cartridges, and now we have vape pens! Vaping was originally created for cannabis users but pens came about to help cigarette smokers find a new alternative.
Patients that have problematic respiratory systems and lungs are highly irritated by smoke yet vaping has been very smooth for them. You might not get as high as you would normally smoke but you will find relief in smoking. There are studies showing measurements that revealed no significant difference in blood levels, however, expired carbon monoxide was massively reduced when vapes are used.
Some consider vapes to be a clean and clear-headed kind of high while others don’t feel they are getting a heavy high. Again, this is case by case, it’s a good thing there are so many ways to consume your cannabis! Read more: Best cannabis vaporizers.
Hemp Wicks & Joints
Replacing lighters and matches with hemp wicks is a much better alternative than inhaling butane and burned sulphur if you ask us. MassRoots goes into why so many consumers are switching and we couldn’t be happier about their decision! It is even known to intensify your high when smoking! Besides it being healthier for you, it gives us more reason to use the plant and not waste any bit of it. If we could adopt this all around maybe Hemp could save the world! Hey, we’ll keep dreaming, cannabis is legal and most people thought that was a stretch!
There you have it, five healthy and alternative ways to consume marijuana, we hope this reached those who find marijuana to be a bit taboo and still hold it to the stigma. You too can reap the benefits of this magical plant without having it being detrimental to your health. Please let us know of any other healthy and alternative tips to consume cannabis!
