The 2017 High Times Cannabis Cup is coming to Canada and we couldn’t be more excited to have it right here in British Columbia! The High Times Cannabis Cup includes live music, educational seminars and an expo for marijuana-related products from medical marijuana vendors and businesses. We know for some this may seem new to you, so we decided to go a little bit into the history of the High Times Cannabis Cup, as well as what to expect at this year’s festival!
For those of you who do not know, in 1988, Steven Hager—editor at High Times Magazine—founded the Cannabis Cup in Amsterdam. The Cannabis Cup is a yearly festival that allows judges from around the world to come sample and vote for their favorite medical marijuana strains. Today, it is the world’s foremost cannabis festival covering all grounds in the medical cannabis industry. With contests for best seeds, glass, flower and so much more, it was only a matter of time before they started spreading across the world. The Cannabis Cup has now grown to many countries that have legalized medical marijuana. In 2010, the Cannabis Cup was brought to the United States and seven years later and we are finally here! It seems it may have taken a while, but at least we’re making progress, eh?
For the first time in history, the 2017 High Times Cannabis Cup is coming to Laketown Ranch Music & Recreational Park—at Lake Cowichan, B.C., Canada—from August 25th through 27th. The Cannabis Cup will be held in conjunction with the Legends of Valley Music Festival and will have plenty of different events and vendors. Tickets are on sale now for both events and are open to everyone age 19 and up. Not all Cannabis Cup events are held with music festivals so you are all in for a treat! Camping and cannabis, life just doesn’t get any better than this amazing event.
High Times has been known for having educational seminars at their Cannabis Cup expos, this year they will feature Bio Cup Canada. We know a lot of you are excited for the music festival so we thought we’d share the lineup if you haven’t check it out already. Attendees are welcome to vote for best booth, products, and glass and enjoy designated smoking areas to consume your cannabis. There will be so much offered at this event that we had to break it down for you. Here are some of the main events going down at the 2017 High Times Cannabis Cup:
Teaching the World to Grow
Learn How to Grow with Senior Cultivation Editor Danny Danko
HIGH TIMES’ favorite grow expert Danny Danko will give seminars, lead discussions, and take questions while offering answers. This is truly a unique experience for anyone wanting to know more about cannabis cultivation. Don’t be shy, Danko is very hands on and super friendly, he would love to help the world grow.
Cannabis: Taste & Feel
Kitchen Demos / Edibles Village / Topical Massage Spa
Have you ever wondered how to cook with cannabis? The kitchen demos will be a great place to start to pick up some tips and tricks when cooking with cannabis. Ask questions, take notes, and indulge in some sweet edibles! We know not all of you consume your marijuana by smoking and so does High Times, which is why they have created a way to highlight the versatility in cannabis. If you’re not interested in the demos, you can still enjoy the Edibles Village, check out some local vendors and see who’s you like the most! If you’re wanting to relax while in the village, check out their Topical Massage Spa, it will work up an appetite for the curated edible cuisine pairings.
Live Music / Award Show / Camping
Did we mention the Legends of Valley Music Festival will have three stages? We know the lineup looked small, but there are more artists to be announced soon! If you can’t wait for the music there will be a pre-party on the camping grounds on August 24th. We know a full week at a music festival can be a bit much, so we recommend checking out which local vendors won at the award shows, getting to know your camp neighbors, and learning about cannabis.
Future of Cannabis
Vape Pen Clinic / Inside Testing Lab Science
The medical marijuana movement continues to evolve with research, studies, and lab testing science. Dive into the new technology taking over the cannabis industry at the vape pen clinic. If you’re not ready for that, then take a behind the scene look at the science of lab testing. You can also learn about the healing properties of CBD vs. THC at the medical research seminar.
The 710 Factor
Rosin Press / Concentrates Panel & Seminars / Dab Rig Exposition
If you have ever wanted to learn about concentrates or dabbing, check out the 710-inspired panels and seminars. They will offer grow tips for extract enthusiasts and touch on all types of concentrates, including shatter, wax, oil, budder, etc. We know most people are excited they will be featuring rosin press demonstrations, as well as a dab rig exposition and glass blowing by local artists!
